As the Edo 2024 governorship elections gradually winds to an end, the Nigeria Police Force through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG in charge of the election, Frank Mba, has announced a security strategy to ensure peace in the state.
The announcement which was contained in a statement issued on Sunday night by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi came amid the tension across Edo state over the possible winner of the election.
According to the statement: “The strategies include, but are not limited to, Show of Force Exercise, designed to boost the confidence of citizens and to reassure the readiness of the Force to respond appropriately to any possible threat to public safety and security in the State.
“In line with the post-election security strategy, the DIG has ordered enhanced deployment in and around INEC facilities, key stakeholders involved in the election and other critical infrastructure within the State.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force also called on citizens especially residents of Edo State to remain peaceful and law-abiding while going about their endeavours.
The Force, however, warned against any conduct by any individual or group capable of disrupting the existing peace in the state, stressing that the security forces are prepared more than ever before to ensure continuous peace in the state.
