…Another Group Picks APC Nomination Forms For Umakhihe
BENIN – The Board of Trustees of Esan Leadership Group (ELG), a socio-cultural body of Edo Central Senatorial District spread across the country, has announced the official hosting of Barrister Asue Ighodalo, in Lagos on March 8, 2024, at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.
Dr. Asue Ighodalo, a seasoned lawyer, economist, boardroom guru, is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2024 Edo race.
Ighodalo, described as a son of the soil, will at the civic reception, be decorated with the prestigious National Chronicle Newspaper Man of the Year Award.
These were contained in an announcement by Tim Okojie Ave, president of the group and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, National Chronicle Newspaper, at the weekend.
He said: “We decided to host Dr. Asue Ighodalo in Lagos to further boost his acceptance among Esan people in Lagos State and beyond who hitherto never knew him closely, his pedigree, and to showcase him to the world.
The reception, Okojie Ave said, will be attended by the creme de la creme of Esan nation and well-wishers.
Others to be honoured at the event include topnotch who are from Edo Central Senatorial District, Comrade Peter Esele, former President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Elder Famous Enearu, JP, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Classic Marine Services Limited, and Prof. S.E. Eromosele, founder of Mudiame University and top aspirant of Labour Party (LP) in Edo 2024 governorship race.
Side attractions at the event included an Esan cultural display portraying the rich heritage of Esan people and others.
Meanwhile, the Edo Unity League Worldwide, a non partisan socio-cultural organisation from Edo State, with members drawn from all the 18 local government areas of the state, has bought the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for one of its member, Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, to vie for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket and the September 21, 2024 state governorship election.
The group was represented by some Board of Trustees members, led by Chief Victor Ekhator, the Enobore of Benin Kingdom, Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo JP and Comrade Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo.
While handing over the forms to Edo Unity League Director of Youth Organisation, Mr. Marvis Okharedia, the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Mr. Nze Chidi Duru, thanked the BoT members for identifying with a member of the APC worthy of EULW support.
Members of the Edo Unity League Worldwide are drawn from a cross section of the state, cutting across all disciplines and different political affiliations.
A statement released at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja by EULW reads in part: “Rising from an extraordinary General Meeting of the Edo Unity League Worldwide (EULW), we have resolved to play a more proactive role in the political leadership process of our dear State, rather than the mundane attitude of armchair critics of political actions and sociopolitical institutions alike.
“We reached this resolve, in the best interest of the younger generations, who are unable to find role models amongst the multiplicity of political actors of Edo extraction.
“Also, we made this resolve in the best interest of our teeming people who are unable to enjoy any reasonable recompense from their commonwealth that God Almighty has bestowed on our motherland.”
