The Jigawa State Government has confirmed the deaths of ten persons as a result of diphtheria in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Salisu Mu’azu, confirmed this in an interview with newsmen on Friday.
He said the state has recorded 91 cases of diphtheria in 14 local government areas in the state.
According to him, “Ten persons with suspected cases of diphtheria disease died in Jigawa State.”
He further confirmed that two more samples from Kazure and Jahun have been taken to Abuja for testing.
Dr Mu’azu stated that the state government is making arrangements for the administration of vaccines while also making efforts to curtail the spread of the disease from neighbouring states.
