Davina McCall was overcome with emotion as she collected her Special Recognition award at the 2024 National Television Awards
Davina McCall was visibly moved at the 2024 National Television Awards, where she was honoured with a Special Recognition award for her illustrious career in showbiz. On stage to receive her award, the seasoned presenter couldn’t help but cry as ITV played a heartfelt montage of her achievements, including her roles in Big Brother, My mum Your dad and Long Lost Family.
The audience rode an emotional rollercoaster alongside Davina laughing and crying with her throughout. Faces familiar to TV audiences, such as Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary from This Morning, were seen comforting McCall while praises unfolded onscreen.
During the tribute, Dermot hailed her as “kind, generous, smart and funny” and Claudia Winkleman, host of The Traitors, remarked on Davina’s genuine nature saying, “She is exactly as you see her.”

As accolades continued, the NTAs broadcast showed a small picture-in-picture frame of Davina expressing utter astonishment and joy, placing her hand over her mouth in disbelief. As more kind words were said about the 56-year-old star, tears welled up and she began to sob, wiping her eyes.
At various moments, laughter seized her as she resonated with the sentiments being expressed. Alison warmly commented, “If you have a Davina in your life, trust me, you’re doing alright.” Amid ongoing applause, Davina eventually took to the stage, tears still streaming down her face, whilst receiving a rapturous standing ovation, signalling the magnitude of love and respect she commands, reports the Express.
Upon receiving the award, Davina expressed: “Thank you so much. This means so much, I can’t even begin to tell you.” She proceeded to deliver a heartfelt speech expressing gratitude to those she has collaborated with over the years, including ITV and Channel 4.
Her voice filled with emotion as she confessed: “I love my job. I feel so privileged to be able to share it with all of you and that you quite like some of it, not all of it.” Turning her attention to her partner, Michael Douglas, Davina shared: “I love being on this journey with you. You make me a better person and you make me so happy. Thank you.”
