Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella steals the show at Euros
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has been playing some exceptional football in the ongoing European Championships for Spain, as the 25-year-old former Brighton defender has surprisingly topped one of the stat boards from the quarterfinals round.
The La Masia academy graduate has started all the games for Spain in the EURO 2024, apart from the final group fixture against Albania, where Luis de la Fuente rested him, as he has been one of the standout performers of not only this Spain team but also of the whole tournament.
Redemption arc?
The 25-year-old has struggled to find his feet for the majority of his time with the West Londoners; however, he has taken his vibrant business end-of-season purple patch into the international spotlight, and he is now only a couple of games away from holding that EURO 2024 silverware.
Cucurella featured for the whole 120 minutes in Spain’s win against tournament hosts Germany in the final, and he has surprisingly topped one of the stats from all the quarterfinal games.
A stat by Sofascore states that the Chelsea full-back recorded a top speed of 35.5 kph in Spain’s game against Germany, which is the highest across the final eight fixtures.
Going into the next game, Cucurella will need speed and more as he will have to deal with the Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele threats as Spain face the mighty French side in the Euro 2024 semi-final tomorrow.

His resurrection at the internal stage means Cucurella has an opportunity to start the upcoming season as the first-choice left-back under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
