Chelsea have just 2 options if they want to upgrade stadium; both scenarios could be highly inconvenient

Chelsea might have to wait six years for reconstruction of Stamford Bridge

As per Sun, Chelsea are considering extending Stamford Bridge seats, but there are other cons, and as for that, they have been left with two options: either move out for six years while it is redeveloped or buy new land and build it elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the on-field struggles continue as they strive to eke out favourable results and sit 11th in the Premier League table. The fans have been left frustrated with the way the owners are operating and how they are managing the club.

The Blues’ earlier decision to revamp the arena’s stands is similar to what Liverpool are doing. Last October, the owners of a housing block beside Stamford Bridge agreed to sell their lands to Todd Boehly for £80 million.

However, that agreement is yet to be reached, and now the club’s chief feels that going through separate planning and construction processes and all the associated disruption would be unworkable.

And if the Blues are ready to remain at Bridge, that would mean they will have to demolish the entire stadium and rebuild it again, which will take six years to reconstruct, forcing the club to play at Wembley until then.

It has become a very complicated decision for Chelsea, as they want to build Stamford Bridge similar to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, with 60,000 seats which will cost them £1 billion more. This will see the club wait for six years and rent Wembley until then.

We will eventually want to play in a larger venue with a higher attendance, therefore it makes sense that we cannot play in the same stadium. Plus, it will benefit the team financially since more supporters translate into higher revenue.

Even though expanding the seating by the stands is a good alternative, Chelsea will still be able to play at the Bridge. The owners of the Blues will have to make important decisions, and they want to choose wisely which should also benefit home fans and align with their travelling.
