Chelsea fans celebrated their club’s scouting as Samu Omorodion scored two goals in a 3-3 draw against Manchester United.
The Blues were heavily linked with the striker in the summer but a move from Atletico Madrid to west London collapsed.
A £36million deal for Omorodion was negotiated by Chelsea alongside Atletico’s pursuit of midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Before the transfer failed to materialise, some questions were raised over the Premier League’s side interest as the forward had little top flight experience.
Omorodion went on to sign for Portuguese side Porto and has since been an excellent addition, with his performance on Thursday night a fine example.
Porto hosted United in the Europa League and fell 2-0 down after 20 minutes following goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.
However, they clawed back to lead 3-2 win before settling for a 3-3 draw thanks to Harry Maguire’s stoppage-time equaliser, with Omorodion on the scoresheet twice at the Estadio do Dragao.
The Spaniard has now scored seven goals from six appearances in all competitions this season, with Chelsea fans revelling in his success.
Taking to X, one said: “Chelsea sent Samu Omorodion to Porto to torment United. another Todd Boehly [co-owner] masterclass.”
“Samu Omorodion could have been playing for Chelsea but instead we chose to let the deal die so that he can be the weapon fashioned against Manchester United,” added a second.
However, a third fan appeared to wish that Chelsea actually signed Omorodion as they said: ” Chelsea go back and bring Samu Omorodion to the Bridge.”
“Chelsea has to go back into the market for Omorodion. I’ve seen enough,” added a second.

Omorodion cause a defensive headache for United, with their former midfielder Owen Hargreaves in admiration of his performance.
“[Matthijs] De Ligt loses Samu, who was absolutely brilliant in terms of running the channels, efficient in front of goal,” he said on the Porto man’s second goal on TNT Sports.
“That kid’s a player, and he caused De Ligt absolute nightmares today.”
United’s draw to Porto will have added to the pressure on Erik ten Hag as their disappointing season continues.
The result followed their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend and leaves them on just two points in the Europa League.
Since Ten Hag joined United in 2022, no Premier League club has conceded three or more goals in a match more times in all competitions than them, with their tally sitting at 24.
Chelsea on the other hand have been much more impressive as they kickstarted their UEFA Conference League campaign with a 4-2 win at home to Belgian side Gent.

Renato Veiga and Pedro Neto scored for the Blues before the visitors responded through Tsuyoshi Watanabe.
Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall then netted before Omri Gandelman’s late consolation to hand Chelsea all three points.
Chelsea may have missed out on Omorodion as well as Jhon Duran, who scored a stunner in Aston Villa’s famous Champions League win against Bayern Munich but seem to be coping well enough without them as Enzo Maresca has overseen yet another win.
