Chelsea amping up pursuit of Samu Omorodion

Chelsea amping up pursuit of Samu Omorodion

According to a report from Football London, Chelsea are willing to prioritise moving for Atlético Madrid’s Samu Omorodion over other strikers this summer.

Chelsea have been linked to a host of forwards from all across Europe in their quest to find goal-scoring solutions ahead of next season, with the likes of Jonathan David, Viktor Gyökeres, Julián Álvarez, Jhon Duran, and Victor Osimhen also having been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

According to the report, however, Omorodion’s profile and age mean Chelsea will go after him if he and Atleti opt to part ways.

Having reportedly agreed terms with Girona’s Artem Dovbyk, Atlético Madrid are expected to be open to letting Omorodion leave this summer.

The Spain U21 international spent last season on loan at Alavés, producing nine goals and an assist in 36 appearances across all competitions.

With his contract currently set to run until June 2028, Omorodion is valued by Transfermarkt at €35 million, though Atleti are likely to demand more than this number to let him go.

The mind boggles

If you’re a Chelsea fan, the prospect of a young striker who showed promise in Spain but didn’t have enough experience coming to Stamford Bridge would sound all too familiar; after all, this was also the case with Nicolas Jackson.

For Chelsea to look for readymade solutions who could help them in the here and now would be understandable. This, however, makes very little sense on paper.

Yes, Chelsea buying a plethora of young players is a good long-term strategy, but they also need to plan for the present if there is to be a forever after.
