The advance team of President Muhammadu Buhari to Daura, Katsina State came under attacks from gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday.
The attack was confirmed in a terse statement circulated by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s media aide on Tuesday night.
According to the Presidential aide, the attackers were said to have opened fire on the convoy heading from Abuja to Daura from ambush positions, but were repelled by the military, the police and the DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
The statement reads, “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura”.
DAILY POST reports that Buhari is expected to travel to Daura within the week to celebrate the Sallah festivities.
