The Benue State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of ₦6,644,778,900 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The approval was given during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The governor, Hyacinth Alia had earlier submitted a correspondence to the assembly, seeking approval for the supplementary budget to cover the costs of the October 5th council elections.
The House unanimously approved the budget in a voice vote.
While speaking, the Speaker said the approval reflected the governor’s commitment to ensuring a hitch-free and credible electoral process in Benue state.
He said the funds would be used to facilitate the smooth conduct of the local government elections, which were scheduled on October 5th.
“With this approval, the Benue state government has demonstrated its dedication to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that the electoral process is transparent and fair,” he added.
