£200,000 is being pumped into renovating the building
The firm that has taken over a struggling care home said they are keen to show it’s “turned over a new leaf” as they invest £200,000 into the building. Sandrock Nursing Home is set for a rebrand after years of being slammed by inspectors for poor care of its residents.
Sandrock Nursing Home in Wallasey has been rated inadequate six times and placed in special measures by the CQC since April 2021. Before this it had been in and out of being rated inadequate since June 2017 though it was rated “Good” in April 2019.
Wirral Council had also suspended putting new people who were under its care in the home run by Prasur Investments Limited since July 2021 due to quality of care concerns. However, before the CQC could take action, Prasur sold the service to Frank Care Ltd, a new company set up in Birkenhead.

Ronny Ghuman, a director for Frank Care (Sandrock) Ltd, said: “We took over Sandrock because it was in a dire state. We took it over three months ago and from the ground up, refurbished that property in every sense of the word. We have spent £200,000 on the building and the ground floor is being completely refurbished and a brand new roof.”
The new firm has removed struck-off staff, made all staff go through 98 hours of mandatory training, appointed new clinical leads, as well as a new manager with 30 years experience on the Wirral. It cost £10,000 each to replace the bathrooms and bedrooms are being completely stripped back and replaced.
Six people were in the home when Frank Care took it over and they are now in the process of moving existing clients into the new rooms. Mr Ghuman said the firm specialises in taking over failing care homes and completely turning them around.
The firm hopes to have 13 clients by the end of the year once the first floor of the home is fully refurbished before moving onto doing up the second and third floor. Mr Ghuman said the renovations were being done in stages “to be very mindful” of those currently living in the home.
He said: “We are now in a good place. It got such a bad reputation and it’s turned over a new leaf. It’s a completely new place.
“It needed infrastructure changes and that was why it was so important for us to comply with the CQC and ensure our clients are getting the best quality of life. Care isn’t cheap anymore,” adding: “We are very keen to show that your money isn’t being pissed up the wall so to speak. You have got what you pay for.”
A relaunch of the home is expected in several weeks.
