Located on the northern end of the Wirral Peninsula is a picturesque beach covered in gold, soft sand. Leasowe Bay sits nestled into low-lying dunes and is a picturesque getaway with phenomenal views.

Leasowe Castle dates back to 1593 when it was built for Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby, as an observation platform for the Wallasey races. When it was owned by the Cust family in 1815, the first St. Bernard dog brought to England lived inside the castle’s walls.

The castle passed through several members of the family until it became Leasowe Castle Hotel in 1891. It was then bought by the trustees of the railway Convalescence Homes in 1910 and accommodated German prisoners during the First World War.

The castle was occupied by a matron, assistant matron, head gardener, maintenance engineer and various catering and domestic staff until to 1970. It lay derelict until 1982 when it was purchased and restored and has been a hotel ever since.

Elsewhere in the castle is Brasserie 1593 which is open to the public for morning and evening meals. The hotel currently has a reception room called ‘The Star Chamber’ which is often used for relaxation, afternoon tea and event hire. If you prefer to sit outdoors, Wreckers Bar features a laid-back beer garden with an al fresco food and drink menu.

The ceiling of the Star Chamber at the Palace of Westminster was brought to the castle in 1836 along with panelling and other furnishings including tapestries depicting the four seasons. The room received its name because the ceiling was decorated with bright stars. It was salvaged from the old Palace of Westminster before the Star Chamber was demolished in an 1806 building project and remains in the castle today.
