Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid is quickly becoming the biggest transfer story of 2024 – and not Kylian Mbappé to Madrid – with rumors surrounding the Bayern Munich left back continuing to heat up.
Following Bayern’s latest defeat, 1-0 to Werder Bremen near the bottom of the table, the speculation around Davies has seemingly reached a crescendo.
Davies’ performance against Werder and former Bayern right back Mitchell Weiser has been roundly derided, with many fans and pundits pointing out that Davies hasn’t been at the elite level for a couple of years now. He’s not shown any real progress.
Worse yet, TZ.de’s Philipp Kessler reports that individuals within Bayern have started to look at Davies more critically over recent months, and there is a feeling that the transfer speculation to Real Madrid is affecting his play negatively.
Of course, Davies, through his agent, has been flirting hard with Madrid over the last few months. Juni Calafat and Los Blancos, for their part, have shown plenty of interest, too, highlighting Davies as their dream target this summer – even above Mbappé.
Real Madrid may value Alphonso Davies more than Bayern Munich
Left backs who can defend at an elite level and progress play with endless intensity are always in demand, even if they have some technical deficiencies like Davies does.
Though he isn’t a perfect player, Davies is a great left back whose profile fits exactly what Real Madrid are looking for in a two-way fullback. He would be a massive upgrade on their current players, especially the disappointing Ferland Mendy.
If Bayern don’t value Davies or if Thomas Tuchel doesn’t think he’s at the technical level that he wants, Real Madrid would surely be more than happy to snap the left back up, likely paying more in wages to the Canadian star.
As time goes on, Davies to Real Madrid looks increasingly more likely. This is a blockbuster transfer that should actually happen in summer 2024.
