Arsenal have been handed a double boost in the Premier League title race after two Manchester United players were ruled out of Wednesday’s crunch game against the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side host Ruben Amorim’s men at the Emirates looking to make it three league wins on the bounce and pile the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table. Arsenal returned to winning ways by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 last weekend before thrashing West Ham 5-2 on Saturday.

Although the Gunners moved to within six points of Liverpool with victory at the London Stadium, the gap has since been extended back to nine following the Reds’ fine 2-0 win over Manchester City. But Arteta’s men will be confident they can keep putting the pressure on Liverpool with three points against United.

And their task has been made slightly easier after Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo both picked up their fifth yellow card of the season in their 4-0 thumping of Everton at Old Trafford. Martinez and Mainoo will be unavailable for the trip to north London and will return against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Arsenal are in confident mood at the moment after two big wins and Arteta has recognised that his team need to capitalise and pick up points while they are playing well. “Yeah, we’ve got some momentum,” Arteta said.

“I think we have some flow back. a real determination winning three consecutive meetings against three opponents. It’s great. And, yeah, we’re going to enjoy tonight and watch a beautiful game of football tomorrow.”

“We are in a great moment right now, but in football, be on your toes and be prepared the best possible way for tomorrow because it’s so competitive,” Arteta added. “This league, the position that we are playing every three days, that’s the only thing that you can do, you know, analyse what we’ve done really well. A lot of things to improve and still today, go again tomorrow.”
