Arsenal ensure title race will go to final day against Man City with easy win at Manchester United

Arsenal have kept the pressure on Manchester City for the Premier League title with a convincing 1-0 victory at Manchester United.

Leandro Trossard’s goal on 20 minutes was enough for the Gunners to win at Old Trafford for the first time since 2020.

Mikel Arteta’s side started the day in second behind a City outfit who thumped Fulham 4-0 on Saturday to firmly reiterate their title ambitions.

But Arsenal have ensured that the winner will be decided on the final day of the season next Sunday with their 27th win of the campaign.

They name an unchanged starting XI for the fourth consecutive game and were quick to utilise their attacking talent.

Kai Havertz found himself onside and in acres of space on the right and drift past veteran United centre-back Jonny Evans in the box.

His low cross found the feet of the onrushing Trossard, who steered home with ease between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro.

Arsenal continued to enjoy themselves in possession until half time, although there was still a sense the match wasn’t completely done.

But United once again struggled going forward and their first shot on target came in the 68th minute.

They continued to apply pressure with no real penetration as Arsenal held on to seal the crucial three points, much to the adoration of their travelling fans.

Victory sees them reclaim top spot and go ahead of City by a point just a week before their final match of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand which sees them face Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham on Tuesday night.

City will return to the summit with a win in north London and ensure the title is in their hands on the final day.

The reigning champions host West Ham next Sunday and Arsenal play at home to Everton, with nerves fully expected at both grounds during the deciding matches.

United however were unable to respond to their 4-0 thumping at Crystal Palace six days prior and remain eighth in the table.

Their chances of qualifying for Europe are now at risk as they sit three points behind seventh-placed Chelsea, who have a much better goal difference.

Erik ten Hag’s side still face tough tests against Newcastle and Brighton in their final two league games before an FA Cup final against rivals City.

Not a easy win for Arsenal and not convincing either. They outplayed Arsenal but lacked the cutting edge.
