Army Rescues Chibok Girls and Humanitarian Workers from Terrorists: A Victory in Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism

The Nigerian Army presented two more Chibok schoolgirls who had been rescued from the captivity of the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Sambisa forest. Additionally, the Army rescued two of the three humanitarian workers with the Family Health International (FHI360), who were abducted on April 26 in Gamborun Ngala local government area of Borno State.

The Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, presented the two rescued Chibok girls to journalists at the Command and Control Centre of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. He said that in line with the directives of the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, to rid the North-East of terrorism and rescue all kidnapped/abducted victims of terrorism, the troops of OPHK have embarked on a series of operations to achieve the National Security Mandate of the Federal Government.

According to the Theatre Commander, the Army has employed both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in the actualisation of the aforementioned mandate, which has yielded positive results. The results were evident as troops have recently rescued about 14 Chibok schoolgirls. The schoolgirls rescued so far include Aisha Grema (serial number 11 on the abducted Chibok girls list), Hannatu Musa (number 7 on the list), and Sera Luka (number 38 on the list), among others.

The Theatre Commander noted that in line with international best practices, all the rescued girls underwent medical evaluation and treatment at 7 Div Medical Services and Hospital before being handed over to the Borno State Government. Furthermore, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued two other Chibok School girls on April 21, 2023. Esther Marcus and her one-year-old baby, Juwairiya, were rescued by troops of 114 Task Force Battalion Bitta at Lagara during operations. Esther is 26 years old, Kibaku by tribe from Jila in Chibok LGA of Borno State.

During her captivity, she was forcefully married to one Garba AKA (Garus), a Boko Haram terrorists’ fighter who was killed during troops’ offensive operations on terrorists’ enclaves. She was later married off to another Boko Haram terrorist, Abba, in Ukuba terrorist enclaves in Sambisa forest until her rescue by troops of OPHK.

The Army also rescued two of the three humanitarian workers with the Family Health International (FHI360), who were abducted on April 26 in Gamborun Ngala local government area of Borno State. This is yet another victory in the Army’s ongoing fight against terrorism in the region.

The rescue of these individuals is a testament to the Army’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Nigerian citizens. The Army has continued to make significant progress in its efforts to rid the country of terrorists and to rescue those who have been kidnapped or abducted.

However, the fight against terrorism is far from over. The Army must continue to remain vigilant and proactive in its efforts to combat the threat posed by Boko Haram/ISWAP and other terrorist groups in the region. The safety and security of Nigerian citizens must remain a top priority for the government and the military.

The government must also ensure that the necessary resources and support are provided to the military to enable them to carry out their duties effectively. This includes providing the military with the necessary equipment, training, and intelligence to effectively combat the threat of terrorism.

In addition, the government must work to address the root causes of terrorism in the region. This includes addressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and corruption, which have contributed to the rise of extremist groups in the region.

Overall, the rescue of these individuals is a significant victory in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria. However, the government and the military must remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerian citizens.
