Members of different political parties on Friday decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
The new PDP members were decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Also, a group of Idoma and Igede people of Benue State living in Ogun State, who claimed to be loyalists of former Governor Olusegun Osoba, also defected to the PDP.
The decampees were officially received at an event held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta by the Chairman of the PDP in Ogun, Sikirulai Ogundele and other leaders of the party from the Southwest.
The Osun State Governor-Elect, Ademola Adeleke was represented at the event by the former South West Secretary of the party, Reverend Bunmi Jenyo.
Speaking, Ogundele welcomed the new members into the party, assuring them that they would not regret their decision.
He described many of the defectors as one-time members of the PDP, saying they were only returning to their source.
“In PDP, there is no founder, no joiner. We are all one. Many of you are former members of the PDP. I can only welcome you back home. You will never regret this decision,” Ogundele said as he handed over the flag of the PDP to leaders of the decampees.
In their words, the governorship candidate of the party in Ogun, Ladi Adebutu and his running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, appreciated the people for believing in their mission.
They charged Ogun people to get their voter’s cards ready, saying that is the only weapon to take the Gateway State to greater heights in 2023.
