The Anambra State government has warned residents along the coastal regions of the River Niger to relocate ahead of the impending flood disaster in the eight local government areas.
The local government areas that are at risk of flooding are Ogbaru, Onitsha North and South, Anambra East and West as well as Ayamelum, Oyi and Awka North.
The Commissioner for Information Paul Nwosu warned the people of the rising water levels of the River Niger and advised them to be on the alert. He said:
“According to a statement by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) on Friday, floodwaters from countries in the River Niger system are gradually moving towards Nigeria, starting with Kebbi State.”
