Health workers in Anambra, has called for more collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organisation (WHO) and other stakeholders to strengthen health sector in the state.
The workers made the called at the closing ceremony of a three-days review of 2023 and the 1st quarter of 2024 Annual Operational Plan (AOP), held at Maryrose Hotel Awka, over the weekend.
According to them, there’s no strong collaboration between the state government health sector and the UNICEF, WHO and other health partners.
They lamented absence of Anambra government officials during the review meeting.
Speaking during the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike said that the AOP meeting is to ensure everyone aligns towards common goals: ensure all team members understand the ministry’s objectives and priorities.
“This helps us to facilitate resource allocation, as well ensure optimal allocation of resources, budget and identify, address potential risks and challenges.
“Boosts our employee engagement, involves the staff-members in the planning process, increases motivation and commitment.
“We have set clear expectations, define roles, responsibilities, and performance metrics for each member here.
“We have reflected on past performance which has helped us to set new ambitions and we are determined to achieve our goals.
Obidike explained that the AOP meeting is a crucial event that holds significant importance in his ministry.
The Commissioner commended UNICEF for their continued support in the healthcare of the state while assuring the public that Governor Charles Soludo’s administration is committed to improving the healthcare system of the state.
On her part, the anchor person of the programme and the head of Planning Department, Research and Statistics of the State Health Ministry, Mrs. Edith Nwachukwu said the meeting offered the state the opportunity to review 2023 AOP as well as articulate the activities that has been done in the 1st quarter of 2024.
“in the meeting we were able to brainstormed on what we can do to achieve the objectives of the mission of the health sector in 2024 and we are eternally grateful to UNICEF for their support,” Mrs Nwachukwu stated.
The event was organised by the State Ministry of Health in support from the UNICEF.
