McDonald’s has apologised to customers about the rubbish left outside one of its restaurants
A Merseyside McDonald’s has apologised after complaints of an “awful stink” after “apple pie, milkshakes and all sorts of s****” were dumped outside a restaurant.
A video shared on a local Facebook group showed the Page Moss drive-thru, on Liverpool Road, with outside tables full of rubbish, bits of discarded food on the floor and bins overflowing.
According to recent news reports, anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Page Moss has become so commonplace that buses have been forced to divert their routes. The 10A bus, which connects the city centre with St Helens, dropping passengers off in Kensington, Old Swan and Liverpool Road in Page Moss, was suspended for over a week, on November 25, due to issues with ASB – the service is now running as normal.

Alongside the video, which was shared online, a caption reads: “Page Moss Maccies […] left in a tip been like that for hours!!! All the bricks falling off the wall and everything needs something to happen asap little kids come here with their mum and dad just a disgrace.”
One person replied to the video and wrote: “It’s so embarrassing the people who make the mess must surely have been taught better by their parents or carers? Is it a new trend to behave like you grew up in a stable?”.
Another member of the Facebook group page added: “Wanna try standing at the bus stop outside the stink is awful, apple pie, milkshakes all sorts of s**** around it.”
Knowsley Council confirmed there have been no reports of anti-social behaviour to the local authority as the land is privately owned and the premises is a private property. However, the council added: “Our Environmental Health team will visit the premises to provide advice around containment and management of waste.”
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “Hygiene and cleanliness is of the utmost importance to us, the footage in the video does not reflect the high standards of cleanliness we aim to deliver and we would like to apologise to customers who were affected.
“Our restaurant team in Page Moss have been reminded about our hygiene and cleanliness procedures and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
“We take our responsibility around litter very seriously, which is why for over 40 years, McDonald’s restaurant teams, including Page Moss, have carried out daily litter patrols in local communities, collecting all litter not just McDonald’s branded packaging.
“We would encourage customers to inform our crew members of any litter hot spots, which we will look to include in our litter patrols wherever possible.”
