The 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers have come and gone at least until May when the last qualification window commences but Nigerian Wrestlers are still ecstatic with the support showered on them in the last couple of weeks.
It was an eventful two weeks of immense pressure as Nigerian Wrestlers participated in numerous major competitions, firstly the African Games in Ghana followed by the African Championships and the Olympic qualifiers in Alexandria, Egypt.
Ashton Mutuwa (125kg) who made his debut and secured Silver medals and Olympic Qualification in these tournaments for Nigeria after pledging allegiance to the African giant heaped praises on the support him and his team-mates have received so far, just as he has set his sight on podium performance at Paris.
Ashton Mutuwa in a shoutout interaction with Promise Okotoko, Media Assistant Nigeria Wrestling Federation thanked Nigerians for the support expressed in positive words and prayers.
“I just wanted to give a stoutout to Nigerians for the support I’ve received so far”. Ashton said.
“My appreciation to Daniel Igali and the NWF board for allowing me to come and wrestle and represent Nigeria, Daniel Igali helped in coaching and mentoring me to reach this level”.
“Also to my coach Victor Kodei and my team-mates Harrison, Stephen, Simeon and Braveman I could not have done this without your support”.
“I’m excited I get to be in Paris to represent my country, although the work is not done I hope to bring a medal at the games but i think we’ve accomplished something so far”.
Aston Mutuwa concluded by appreciating NWF Press Officer Promise Okotoko and the Nigerian and international journalists for covering Wrestling which is a huge way in growing the sport.
