The woman’s child was delivered alive at hospital and is receiving “critical care”
A newborn baby is in a critical condition after a heavily pregnant woman fell from the 17th floor of a tower block. The emergency unfolded on Wednesday in Leeds with police and paramedics responding to the distressing scene.
Despite efforts to save the expectant mum, a woman in her 30s, she was declared dead at the scene. Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerted West Yorkshire Police to the situation at Shakespeare Towers, around 10.24am.
The woman’s baby was delivered alive at hospital and is now in intensive care. A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding the event and a file has been prepared for the coroner.

A police spokesman said: “At 10.24am today, police were contacted by the ambulance service who had been called to an incident where a woman had fallen from height. The woman died at the scene as result of her injuries. There were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been informed.
“The woman, aged in her thirties, was in the late stage of pregnancy and her baby was delivered at hospital after the incident and is receiving critical care.”
A local resident recounted to the BBC how he was in his flat on the 14th floor when he heard a “thud” and screaming. He expressed: “It’s a shock to everybody, to the whole community.”
Tributes have begun to emerge online for the woman and newborn child, with one individual sharing on Facebook: “Rest in peace you beautiful lady. I cannot believe I’m actually writing this”, reports the Mirror. The post continued: “Always a beautiful soul in and out…Thinking of your children at home and praying for your baby girl in hospital will be okay.”
