ALDAPCON, CVCNU partner to advance data privacy, protection in Nigerian varsities – Blueprint Newspapers Limited


Association of Licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisations of Nigeria (ALDAPCON) and the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) have agreed to partner to advance data privacy and protection within Nigerian universities.
A statement by Director, Publicity and Advocacy ALDAPCON Ayodeji Rex Abitogun disclosed that the agreement which was signed on September 5, 2024, marks a significant step towards safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations across higher education institutions in Nigeria.

He said the partnership addresses the growing need for robust data privacy practices in the academic sector.
“As universities increasingly rely on digital platforms for administrative and educational purposes, protecting student and staff data has never been more critical,” he said.

According to him, through this collaboration, ALDAPCON and CVC will work together to develop and implement comprehensive data protection strategies tailored to the unique needs of Nigerian universities.
He disclosed that the key objectives of the partnership are development of data protection policies, training, capacity building and public awareness campaigns.

He said, “ALDAPCON will assist universities in creating and refining data protection policies that align with national and international standards.
” The agreement includes extensive training programs for university staff to enhance their understanding of data privacy laws and best practices.
Compliance Monitoring and Support: ALDAPCON will provide ongoing support to ensure that universities maintain compliance with data protection regulations and effectively manage data privacy risks.
” Both organizations will collaborate on campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of data privacy within the academic community.”
Mr. Ivan Anya, the chairman of ALDAPCON said, “This partnership represents a crucial advancement in our mission to promote data privacy and protection across various sectors.

“By joining forces with the Committee of Vice Chancellors, we are taking a proactive approach to addressing data privacy challenges in Nigerian universities and setting a precedent for other sectors.”

On his part, the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigeria Universities, represented by the Secretary-General, Prof. Yakubu A. Ochefu, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to work with ALDAPCON to strengthen data privacy measures among our member institutions. This agreement is a testament to our commitment to protecting the privacy and security of our students and staff.”
The partnership between ALDAPCON and CVCNU will significantly impact data privacy practices within Nigerian universities, ensuring that institutions are well-equipped to handle the complexities of data protection in today’s digital age.
