‘We had withdrawn our petition against NLC’, Air Peace denies link to Ajaero’s arrest

Air Peace has distanced itself from the arrest of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, which occurred on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Ajaero was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) as he was about to depart for the United Kingdom on an official assignment.

In a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Omotade Makinwa, Air Peace addressed recent media reports that suggested the arrest was linked to a petition submitted by the airline.

Makinwa expressed concern over the negative publicity generated by these reports, which misrepresent the airline’s position.

The airline clarified that the petition in question was filed over a year ago, following a disruption of its operations by the NLC on May 3, 2023.

This disruption was part of a broader conflict between the NLC and the Imo State Government.

Although Air Peace was not involved in this dispute, the disruption caused substantial financial losses and inconvenience to travelers.

Despite submitting a petition to the Nigerian Police, Air Peace faced delays in action.

Makinwa further explained that, despite the petition, Air Peace and the NLC had resolved their issues amicably.

The airline had withdrawn its petition, and a positive working relationship had been restored between the two parties.

The recent arrest of Ajaero is not related to the current state of relations between Air Peace and the NLC.
