Federico Chiesa may face a lengthy wait before he makes his Liverpool debut. The Reds signed the Italy international from Juventus before the summer transfer closed last month in a deal that could reach up to £12.5 million with add-ons.

Liverpool signed Chiesa to add further depth to the forward line that is already blessed with several options. Chiesa will compete with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez for a starting spot in the team for the Reds.

The first match after Liverpool signed Chiesa is their trip to face Manchester United on Sunday. However, Reds head coach Arne Slot admitted earlier in the week that he did not expect Chiesa to feature for Liverpool in the trip to Old Trafford.

As a result, Chiesa faces a wait before he makes his first appearance for Liverpool. Thanks to the upcoming international break, the Italy international may have to wait even longer than he and many would like.

After Liverpool’s clash against Man United, they are not in action again until September 14. This day will see the Reds host Nottingham Forest in their first Premier League fixture after the international break.

After that, Liverpool will travel to face AC Milan in their first league phase fixture of the new Champions League format. The Reds will then host Bournemouth at Anfield in the Premier League before facing West Ham in the third round of the Carabao Cup, although the exact date for this fixture is yet to be confirmed.

Chiesa scored 10 goals across 37 appearances for Juventus last season and will be hoping for a similar, if not better, goal return for Liverpool this term. Should the 26-year-old be forced to wait for his Reds debut, then he will be hoping to open his goalscoring account for his new club against Forest later this month.
