A 45th person has been charged following violent disorder in Merseyside. Violent scenes flared in Southport on July 30 and then in Liverpool city centre and Walton on August 3.

Police vans were set alight and officers were attacked during protesting on St Luke’s Road in Southport on the evening of July 30. A planned protest at the Pier Head on August 3 then descended into violence, with Merseyside Police forced to use riot gear after bricks and debris were thrown towards PCs.

The disorder then continued on County Road that night as chaos, violence and destruction ensued as looters targeted businesses in the area. This included a fire being started at Spellow Library and Community Hub.
