Fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have discovered a no-scrub hack
Oven racks are notoriously difficult to clean and often involve the use of costly chemical-laden products that can make your kitchen feel like a science experiment gone wrong.
Alternatively, many people in the UK turn to hiring a professional cleaning service to deal with the tough grime, which can set you back as much as £100 — a price that’s becoming increasingly impractical for many in the midst of the ongoing cost of living crisis.
But fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have stumbled upon a hassle-free method that seems to work wonders on those greasy racks, even if you don’t own a dishwasher.
In the busy Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, home to over 460,000 followers, Gill Nanar enthused about her discovery of using dishwasher tablets to revive her filthy oven racks, reports the Express.
“I don’t have a dishwasher so I soaked overnight in the bath – three disgusting racks,” she explained. “I used eight tablets as [I] really didn’t know the amount. This morning, I had hot soapy water and wiped them over. Brilliant.”

The post was met with a wave of support from fellow cleaning aficionados in the comments section, with numerous members expressing their eagerness to give the trick a go.
“Great, will do that next time,” exclaimed one impressed member. Echoing the sentiment, another chimed in: “Yes, it’s great. They are so good for lots of grease and grimy things but not so many next time, save yourself a few pence,” while someone else chimed in with, “Good tip! I’ll try that next time.”
However, some voices of caution were raised regarding the use of dishwasher tablets in the bathroom, highlighting their ‘corrosive’ properties.
“Do they not damage your bath? ” one person asked. Another voiced their concerns, saying: “Crikey. Personally, I would not do it in the bath as dishwasher tablets are highly corrosive and will eventually damage your bath. You can buy a tray from Lakeland to soak the racks in.”
Meanwhile, a third commenter shared a handy tip: “I have a shallow plastic tray 8cm deep. Only use one dishwasher tablet, [it] works perfectly every time.”
To try this cleaning hack at home, you can grab a pack of dishwasher tablets from any supermarket or home goods store.
Aldi is currently offering shoppers a deal where they can pick up a 37-pack of dishwasher tablets for just £3.99 – that’s approximately 11p per wash. For those who prefer an alternative to using their bathtub, Amazon has an industrial-grade tray on sale for £13.95 which could be used for soaking oven racks.
