Authorities in Florida are investigating the mystery of a plane discovered abandoned on the side of a Bay County road.
The Springfield Police Department reported on social media that “a portion of a plane” — the cockpit, nose, and front propeller — was discovered abandoned along Transmitter Road.
The plane is marked by ZooWorld in Panama City Beach, including giraffe logos on the seats, but the company said it sold the plane about a week ago.
“That was once part of an exhibit, but it was removed to make it more user-friendly for people in wheelchairs and compliant for people, so everyone could enjoy it.” According to Jadena Terrell, ZooWorld’s assistant park director.
The police also stated that they discovered the person who took possession of the plane had taken it to a scrap yard.
“There is some kind of material inside the instruments that causes the glow at night, so the scrap yard can not take them,” said Russell Voyles, assistant police chief for the Springfield Police Department. “So they took a portion of the plane, but they did not take the section behind me.”
Police are now investigating how the remaining portion of the plane ended up on the side of the road. Voyles stated that once the investigation is completed, a decision will be made on whether to pursue civil or criminal charges against the responsible party.
