Former President Donald Trump named his running mate on Monday, a highly anticipated and high-stakes announcement as the Republican National Convention kicked off in Wisconsin.
His name is Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio State, United States of America.
Here are some important things you should know about him:
1. Vance is a 39-year-old senator from Ohio, one of the swing states in the US.
2. He was a vocal critic of Trump when the former president first ran for the White House in 2016. He eventually supported Trump, praising the former president’s tenure in the White House.
3. Vance grew up in a working-class family. His parents divorced when he was young. As his mother struggled for years with drug and alcohol abuse, he was raised in part by his maternal grandparents.
4. He is a former venture capitalist and the author of the bestselling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”
5. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Iraq War.
6. Vance later graduated from Ohio State University and then earned a law degree at Yale University.
