Samira Sani, a native of Kano state, entered the Kannywood Industry in 2022. In this interview with Ibrahim Hamisu in Kano, she shares her experience in the industry and encounter with Kannywood players before she joined the movie industry.
What is your background and how did you join Kannywood?
I am a native of Kano City. I was born in Dakatsalle Town in Bebeji Local Government of Kano state, my primary and secondary school education was in Dakatsalle. God brought me to Kano City after my secondary school.
I joined kannywood in 2022. It’s been two years, but I didn’t start acting until 2023.

At first, I am not interested in Kannywood because of the way the actors were being humiliated. Then I joined them and I saw how they have a good relationship, they love each other.
You see, when I go for the shooting of films, I will see them playing and laughing with each other. I will feel that I don’t want to be separated from them. Then I realised that what was being said about the actors in the industy was not true.
That was how my interested start. So I convinced my parents and siblings that I want to join the movie industry and that was how I entered Kannywood, where I started under the mentorship of Director Mujahid M. Soja.
So that’s when you started making movies with them, right?
Yes, although I was really afraid to enter the industry for fear of being called a slut, but when I joined them, I understood them and that what is done in the movie is not done outside, because I mingle with movie actors and non-actors.
So which movie did you start with?
I started with a song called Ladidi Mai Koko da Kosai, which we did with a friend, Late Kamal Aboki, and Adam Dorayi, and in the film section, I started with Ƴan Tiktok by Director Mujahid M. Soja.
How many movies have you done so far?”
I have featured in about five to six, including Ƴan Tiktok, Soyayya ɗaya, Niniya, Buri, and Umurni.
Have you ever been married?
Yes, I was once married, and I have three daughters.
