Residents of Zamfara State have cried out over the unbearable high cost of transportation.
DAILY POST reports that many people have resorted to trekking owing to their inability to afford the high fare.
A resident of Gengeri MaiGemu in Tudunwada area of Gusau told this medium that he used to pay commercial motorcycle riders the sum of N100 but it has increased to N300.
It was also gathered that transportation from Gusau to Sokoto which used to cost N4,000 is now N6,500.
Some of the commercial motorcycle riders and commercial vehicle drivers told DAILY POST that they would be losing if they didn’t increase the price as they were buying a litre of fuel for between N950 to N1000.
DAILY POST visited most filling stations in Gusau metropolis only to discover that not more than five filing stations were operating, while others were under lock and key.
A manager in one of the filling stations in Gusau said that many petroleum tankers were parked at the NNPC Depot in Gusau for days waiting to collect fuel but the product was not available.
It was also gathered that the rising cost of the prices of petroleum products have seriously affected prices of foodstuffs in the market.
