Mercedes-Benz Will Grace Auto China 2024 With Its G-Class EV and AMG GT 63 S E Performance

A lot of big automakers are trying to reassert their focus on China with new products and localized developments – and Mercedes-Benz might be chief among them. The display at the show will include not just new models and fresh technologies but also an announcement regarding the expansion of their R&D center in Shanghai, seeking to broaden the Mercedes‑Benz “footprint and further reinforce the brand’s commitment to China.”At and around Auto China 2024, the German automaker will try to underline its resolve toward dedicated products and technologies for Chinese customers just as Europe and other regions are facing the increased ‘jeopardy’ of Chinese carmakers finally nailing the right models for the pretentious European markets and more. Obviously, Mercedes-Benz wants to give Chinese automakers a run for their money on their home turf in China, too.

Of course, being the largest single-car market in the world also helps keep Mercedes-Benz focused on China as part of its long-term strategy – the region is currently “home to the company’s largest production site and the most comprehensive R&D hub outside Germany, playing a significant role in Mercedes‑Benz’s global R&D network.” Since 2021, the company has had a new R&D Tech Centre China in Beijing, followed by the new R&D Centre Shanghai, focusing on connectivity, automated driving, and software and hardware development. They’re adding a new building to the latter “with advanced hardware and software facilities designed to accelerate local development in cutting-edge digital innovations.”

Moving on, Auto China 2024 will feature the automotive show premieres of the Concept CLA Class and the refreshed all-electric EQS sedan to showcase the upcoming MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform and MB.OS (on the CLA) – “the primary enabler of a hyper-personalized user experience.” Additionally, the updated Mercedes‑Benz EQS Saloon will get a host of enhancements. But those two are just the tip of the iceberg. The most important world premieres will be, instead, the arrival of the new Mercedes‑AMG GT 63 S E Performance, which will be first revealed at a special AMG Brand Night Event in Shanghai during the Formula 1 weekend on April 20, followed by the all-new electric Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class.

It will be shown first on April 24 at the Art District 798 in Beijing to reveal how the off-road legend has been reimagined for the electric age, forging a link between tradition and progress like never before. Starting on April 25, visitors of Auto China 2024 will get to see the new G 580 with EQ Technology on the stand at the global press conference alongside the new Mercedes‑AMG GT 63 S E Performance. The automaker also teased further premieres from Mercedes-Maybach and the Mercedes‑Benz E‑Class series.
