WHD 2024: Delta govt assures access to quality healthcare services

Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to the continuous implementation of policies aimed at promoting public health and preventive care.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, made this known on Sunday in his message to the people of the state as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World Health Day, with the theme: “My Health, My Right”. World Health Day is commemorated on the 7th of April each year.

“The Delta State Ministry of Health understands the importance of prioritizing health as a basic human right. This government is committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare services without discrimination. We have been working tirelessly to position the ONE HEALTH approach as a major strategy along with other high-impact interventions,” the Commissioner disclosed.

Dr. Onojaeme disclosed that as part of measures to improve the health care delivery in the State and address the shortage of health personnel in government-owned hospitals due to brain drain, the Governor Oborevwori administration only recently commenced the employment and deployment of more human resources such as Doctors and Nurses across the 66 secondary health facilities in the State, while the process for recruitment of other cadres of health personnel is almost completed.

“Furthermore, we have procured and distributed hospital equipment across both Secondary and Primary Health Care facilities, enhanced skills by building the capacity of health care workers across the State,” the Commissioner added.

The Commissioner said that the Ministry of Health has been intentional in its interventions in the Primary Health Care Centers which are the bedrock of prompt community diagnosis and treatment and hence will continue to improve service delivery across all the facilities in the State.

“On this World Health Day, I reaffirm our commitment to promoting health as a fundamental human right, advocating for policies that prioritize health equity and ensuring that no one is left behind while empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being” the Commissioner reiterated.
