BY DOMINIC AKPENSUEN, Jalingo –

The Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Taraba State, Bishop Charles Michael Hammawe, has expressed disappointment with the democratic leadership and economic policies imposed by government on Nigerians which turned to be curse instead of blessing.

Bishop Charles spoke during an interview with NATIONAL ACCORD in Jalingo, Taraba State’s capital.

He further stressed that democracy is the best form of government in the world, but in Nigeria, it is turning into a curse instead of blessing.

The cleric reiterated that, democracy is the government where people decide on who should governed them, by delegating power to such person, but not on the decision of the court of justice.

He said it is sad that the court is deciding on the decision of the people at polling units, of which such decision is based on technicalities, and not on the wishes of the people.

Bishop Charles therefore appealed to Nigerian leaders to redouble their efforts irrespective of their faith and provide good governance, shunned oppression, favoritism and sentiment, but embarked on fairness, equity, justice, and fundamental human rights.

He added that, all hands must be on deck to restructure the economic well-being of the people and better their life, according to him, bad economic policies killed faster than a deadly disease or gun.

Bishop Charles called on security agencies to curb insecurity in Nigeria, deployed security personnel to appropriate channels and secure farmers to boost food security in the country.
