David Moyes is better than Sir Alex Ferguson, says ex-Man United man who played under both managers

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard says that David Moyes was the best manager he worked under, not Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson is a Manchester United legend due to his 27 years in charge of the club in which he won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and nine domestic cups.

When he retired, Moyes was tasked with replacing him at Old Trafford but lasted just nine months having found Fergie to be a tough act to follow.

Howard spent four years at Manchester United before joining Everton on loan in 2006 and then completing a permanent move to Goodison Park a year later. He played under Moyes for seven years.

Playing for both managers, the American was asked who was the favourite boss that he worked with in his career, but gave a surprisingly response.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Howard was asked who his best manager was and replied: “David Moyes.”

The journalist then replied: “Not Alex Ferguson?”

To which Howard smiled and reiterated: “David Moyes. I spent nearly a decade with him.

“He bought me to the football club and loved me and my teammates, cared about us and created a family bond.

“We won a lot of games, had a few good cup runs, in Europe a bit. Yeah, David Moyes, brilliant.”

But while Howard was adamant that Moyes was the best manager he played under, he did admit that Sir Alex Ferguson has proven impossible to replace.

“Sir Alex Ferguson, David Gill, they were very much a dynamic duo,” Howard said.

Rio Ferdinand warns West Ham over sacking David Moyes and believes ‘it could end in tears’

“At one point Peter Kenyon was there but then he went to Chelsea and helped build them.

“That’s changed. And when that changes you’re swimming out in the ocean. And that’s why I think that anchor is the team above the team.

“When you are Sir Alex Ferguson and you can hand pick the all right people, and people come in because of you, play because of you, and they’re fearful of letting you down – that permeates the entire club. And we don’t have that figurehead at the football club.”
