MARTINEZ — The suspect in a Bay Point homicide has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison as part of a plea deal that required the dismissal of his murder charge, court records show.

Donald Robbins, 64, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 62-year-old Marty Fabianek, of Concord. Fabianek was shot and killed on Thanksgiving Day 2022, as he and Robbins got into a heated argument that morning.

Police said at the time that Robbins and Fabianek were acquainted through a coincidence: they were both dating women who were employed as caretakers at the Mountain View Avenue home where the shooting took place. It was one of two homicides in Bay Point that day, but police say they were unrelated.

Robbins’ plea deal was finalized on Jan. 24. He was transferred to North Kern State Prison four days later, where he remains. Court records say he received credit for more than a year spent behind bars awaiting a resolution to his case, and that he’ll be eligible for parole sometime in July 2032.
