Did the Me-163 “Komet” break the sound barrier during WW2?

“Mano Ziegler claimed that his colleague, Heini Dittmar, was the first person to brake the speed of sound on 07/06/1944. The Sonic boom was heard by many people on the ground, this record was kept secret until after the war.”

Badass German technology! They were world leaders in tech until they decided to cancel Communism which angered the forerunner to the UN. I’d love to fly this craft! Very Cool. Thanks for all the cool pictures!

A few were even used to attack Bomber formations by shooting up among them, but one trip and they were out of fuel, thay had ejected their landing gear on takeoff, and had to belly land. Some exploded when their two fuels were combined on the ground before takeoff.

Probably, and also the 262. But the credit goes to the cocky Yeager. The ultimate cowboy of the skies! 🤣

It’s possible, but it wasn’t scientifically documented. The X-1 Rocket may not have been the first aircraft to break the speed of sound, but it was the first one to do so with instrument documentation.

It’s also been reported that an F-86 Sabre may have broken the barrier on a dive, during the Korean conflict.

I’d imagine it’s quite possible in a dive
