- Chicago State University, USA, has provided former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with President Bola Tinubu’s academic records, as ordered by a United States District Court in Northern District of Illinois. The documents were released on Monday.
- Former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, made an appearance on Monday at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in the UK in connection with an alleged £100,000 bribe. She was granted £70,000 bail by District Judge Michael Snow, who also imposed an 11 pm to 6 am curfew.
- Organized labor has decided to halt the indefinite strike initially called to address nationwide hardships. After a meeting on Monday, a communique was issued announcing a 30-day suspension of the strike. The communique also instructed the Minister of Labour to address the withheld salaries of university staff.
- The Executive Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have instructed their members to return to work at the country’s seaports and oil and gas platforms. This comes after the union had previously ordered the closure of all seaports, jetties, oil & gas platforms, and terminals in line with organized labor’s directive for an indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
- The Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Lafia, the state capital, has revoked the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the March 18 election. David Ubugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner.
- The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Basil Igwebueze, confirmed that a pregnant woman, the son of the illegal refinery owner, and a bride-to-be were among the victims of a fire that engulfed an illegal refinery in Ibaa community, Emohua Local Government Area. The owner of the illegal refinery, John Bodo, sustained severe injuries, while his son, Uche Bodo, tragically died on the spot.
- Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, expressed concern over the ‘dollarisation’ of Nigeria’s economy during an interview on Monday. He pointed out that the widespread use of the dollar in the country has contributed to reduced productivity.
- A family of four, including parents and their two children, was tragically electrocuted on Monday due to a power surge in the Dinyavoh area of Jalingo, Taraba State. Although the family’s last child survived the incident, the others lost their lives.
- Suspected hoodlums enforcing a sit-at-home order in Ezzangbo community, Ebonyi State, the hometown of self-declared Prime Minister of the Biafran Government in exile, Simon Ekpa, set fire to three vehicles, five motorcycles, and other valuable items on Monday. The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed the incident.
- The Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, expressed the view that Nigerians should hope the country’s refineries do not become operational. Oyedele, speaking at an Independence Anniversary event in Lagos on Monday, suggested that inefficiencies in refinery management could lead to the world’s most expensive liter of petrol.
