The Lagos State Government has sealed eight nightclubs and event centres within the Ikeja and Victoria Island areas of the state.
The Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, in a statement released on Sunday disclosed that the agency sealed these facilities in the interest of public safety.
He stressed the commitment of the commission to ensuring the safety of lives and properties, adding that the commission aims to achieve zero accidents in workplaces and public facilities.
Mojola added that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration has zero tolerance for violation of safety laws and will continually monitor such facilities to ensure compliance with laid down safety laws.
The PUNCH reported that Mojola, at a meeting held in Alausa with nightclub operators and event centre owners about two months ago, warned that clubs and event centres allowing the use of drugs and firearms in their facilities would be shut down.
“Some of the facilities that were in contravention include Hot Box Night Club, Shades Night Club, Buzzbar, CCX Lounge and a number of event centres,” the statement added.
Mojola implored all recreational and event centres yet to be registered with the safety commission to visit www.lasgsafetyreg.com for their registration.
Efforts to reach Shades Nightclub, CCX Lounge and Hot Box Nightclub, were unsuccessful as calls and text messages to their telephone lines were not answered.
However, the Supervisor, Buzzbar, who gave her name as Chidinma, told our correspondent that she was not aware of any shutdown of the club.
“I’m not aware of anything like that. Buzzbar isn’t shut down,” she added
