Fuel price hike: Zamfara workers now report to work twice weekly

By Ifeanyi Nwannah

Zamfara State civil servants now report to their duty posts twice a week, Mondays and Tuesdays, following high cost of transportation and economic challenges in the State.

Investigation carried out by DAILY POST clearly revealed that many ministries and State government agencies were like graveyards on Friday.

A senior official, who spoke under anonymity, told our correspondent that it became necessary as the workers could not afford the transportation fare to their workplaces.

“The civil servants cannot afford the transportation fare being charged due to the escalation of fuel price.

“We cannot query any worker for not reporting at their duty posts because we all know the economic hardship being faced by the people.

“But senior civil servants have no excuse for not reporting to work because we are the heads of ministries and agencies,” he said.

When contacted, the State chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Sani Haliru said that the two labour unions in the State, NLC and TUC were making efforts to meet with the State government to find a lasting solution to the issue.

One of the civil servants, Isah Abdulahi, who spoke to DAILY POST, said that almost all the civil servants have used the three months salary arrears paid to them by the State government to service the debts they were owing.
