Governor of Rivers State Under Fire for Naming Courthouse After Wife

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is facing criticism for naming a new courthouse after his wife, Suzette Eberechi. The Magistrate Court, located at Moscow Road in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, was commissioned by President-elect Bola Tinubu during his recent visit to the state.

Wike defended his decision to name the courthouse after his wife, stating that he had been generous to others and saw no harm in being generous to his own spouse. He made the comment as he was leaving the courthouse.

However, the move has drawn criticism from Twitter users, including Aziz Bakare, who accused Wike of using state funds for personal gain. Bakare also questioned the ethics of naming a courthouse after a sitting judge, particularly one who happens to be the governor’s wife.

Bakare also alleged that other buildings within the courthouse had been named after the Chief Judge and other judges, further adding to the perception of impropriety. He suggested that those responsible for overseeing the project, including Tinubu, should have done more due diligence to prevent such ethical lapses.
