Godfrey Okoye University offers full scholarship to 2023 UTME best student

Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (GOU), Enugu, has announced a full scholarship for the overall best student in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE), along with a full scholarship to study at the Godfrey Okoye College of Medicine. The announcement was made during a presentation event held in Enugu on Friday, where the first male student to be awarded the position of “Vice Chancellor For One Day” at GUO was presented with a car. The student who won the scholarship, Lotanna Azuokeke, is a 15-year-old boy from Oba in Idemmili South Local Government Area and a student of Bishop Otubelu Juniorate, Trans Ekulu, Enugu. Azuokeke achieved a remarkable score of 337 in the JAMB examination, including 99 points in mathematics, 86 in physics, 88 in chemistry, and 64 in English.

Speaking on the score, Anieke said that his offer of a full scholarship for Azuokeke was in line with his passion for education and his desire to empower young people and make them extraordinary. He added that Nigerian youths could compete with their colleagues globally if supported and that he believed in their abilities. Anieke stressed the need for a system that could challenge young people, emphasizing that they could accomplish a lot if given the opportunity.

According to Vanguard reports, a 400L student of the university, Vitalis Iloanuwusi, was the overall best student with a Cumulative Grade Point of 5.0 in two semesters, for which he was made GUO VC for one day. He was the first male student to be awarded the position. Anieke said that the university had adopted the VC for one day program to motivate students, stating that when challenged, students could achieve excellence. He added that those who had been made students for one day were doing extremely well in life, indicating that the program was beneficial.

Mr. Alphonsus Nwafor, the donor who presented the car gift, charged students to have specific objectives for their education, explaining that Iloanuwusi had a vision that led him to break the record. Nwafor noted that when he discovered that only females had been awarded the position of VC for one day, he challenged male students, which led to Iloanuwusi becoming the first male student to win the position. Nwafor further stated that the success gift would be extended to female students who emerged from the position to balance the program, adding that the car gift cost him N3.9 million.
