Kayode Ajulo Urges King Charles III to Pardon Ekweremadu During Coronation Ceremony

On the occasion of the new British monarch’s coronation ceremony, which is slated for tomorrow (Saturday), legal practitioner Kayode Ajulo has said that King Charles III may pardon embattled former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

Ajulo made this statement in an interview on Channels Television on Friday.

He said, “There must be a way out. King Charles’ coronation is an opportunity for a pardon request. There is a thin line between organ harvesting and donation. The UK Modern Slavery Act rarely weighs the intent of the action,” he added.

It should be recalled that a UK court sentenced Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in jail for plotting to harvest a man’s kidney for his sick daughter on Friday.

Ekweremadu’s wife, Beatrice, was handed a sentence of four years and six months, while Obinna Obeta, a medical doctor, received a 10-year sentence for the same offense.

The trio of Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to arrange the travel of a young Nigerian man identified as David Nwamini to Britain to exploit him for his kidney, which was needed for Ekweremadu’s sick daughter, Sonia.

Their trial lasted for six weeks, and their conviction at the Old Bailey, London’s Central Criminal Court, is expected today.

The prosecutor, Hugh Davies, told the jury that Ekweremadu’s behavior showed “entitlement, dishonesty, and hypocrisy.”
