The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has announced that Wednesday will be a public holiday to welcome the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his official two-day visit to the state. The President-elect is scheduled to commission the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta Flyover and the ultra-modern Magistrates’ Court Complex in Port Harcourt on Wednesday and Thursday.
In a state broadcast, Governor Wike explained that during Tinubu’s presidential campaign visit to Rivers State, he had expressed his intention to commission strategic projects in the state after the general elections. After the elections, a formal invitation was sent to the President-elect, which he graciously accepted. This will be Tinubu’s first official visit to any state since he emerged as President-elect of Nigeria.
Governor Wike expressed his delight at hosting the President-elect and urged all citizens of Rivers State to come out in large numbers to receive him and display traditional Rivers hospitality. The Governor also declared Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 as a public holiday to enable the people of Rivers State to welcome the President-elect warmly. He further directed all shops and business premises along Rumuola to Rumuokwuta roads in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State to remain closed from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Governor urged all labour unions and security agencies to comply with this closure order.
Governor Wike called on Rivers people to show their support by giving the President-elect a rousing welcome during his visit, which will add Tinubu’s name to the long list of distinguished Nigerians who have visited the state to commission landmark projects.
