Did Jesus die on cross or stake?

Globally Jesus Christ is depicted to die on cross- a pole with another bar that crosses it at the top. Cross has even become a symbol for many in Christendom, you see it in churches, on rosaries, in necklace and chain, some even used it for worship or protection from evil. But there are sect of Christianity who preaches that Jesus did not die on cross but he died on Stake-a single pole with Jesus two hands raised together and nailed above his head. I need to ask you as a christian, how did Jesus die, on cross or on stake?
