Why You Need To Repent From Your Wicked Ways

Can horses gallop over boulders? Can oxen be used to plow them? But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison and sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness. And you brag about your conquest of Lo-debar. You boast, “Didn’t we take Karnaim by our strength? But all the sinners will die by the sword- all those who say, ‘Nothing bad will happen to us” Amos 6:12, 9:10 (NLT)

Can you keep on sinning and expect grace to abound? Can you keep on cheating people and expect that things will continually be good for you? Repent of your sins now, God is calling you to repentance that is the only way out for you.

Now this is what the Lord says to the family of Israel: “Come back to me and live! Come back to the Lord and live! Otherwise, He will roar through Israel like a fire, devouring you completely. Your gods in Bethel won’t be able to quench the flames” Amos 5:4,5-6 (NLT)

God is giving you another chance today to repent from your sins; He says you should come to Him now that you have the chance, tomorrow maybe late. Your corruptly earned wealth will not save you from His judgment. Your political position cannot save you from the wrath of God. Your “juju” charms cannot save you from the Lord!

So many people slept last night but are no longer alive today. You are alive not because you are better than they are but because of the mercies of God. He is therefore calling you to repent today.

Though your sins may have been as black as coal, but He can make you as white as snow. But if you keep cheating the poor and oppressing the righteous, you will not find salvation. “You twist justice, making it bitter pill for the oppressed. You treat the righteous like dirt” Amos 5:7 (NLT)

Meanwhile you have no rights to treat anyone badly, you have no rights to treat the creatures of God the way it pleases you negatively, because, “It is the Lord who created the stars, the Pleiades and Orion. He turns darkness into morning and day into night. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is His name! With blinding speed and power He destroys the strong, crushing all their defenses.” Amos 5:8-9 (NLT)

It is therefore only God that has the right to pass judgment, and if you are a judge you must judge with the fear of God. You must not judge based on the bribe that you have been given, you must be fair.

If you are a police officer you must pass judgment with fairness; if you arrest an innocent man because his neighbor came to bribe you and lie to you about him and you fail to investigate and arrest this man unjustly, God will not spare you.

And for the powerful and rich, you must not hate the fair judge who passes fair judgment. Stop oppressing the poor or else the Lord Himself will avenge their rights by Himself, the word of God says, “How you hate honest judges! How you despise people who tell the truth! You trample the poor, stealing their grain through taxes and unfair rent. Therefore though you build beautiful stone house, you will never live in them. Though you plant lush vineyards, you will never drink wine from them. For I know the vast numbers of your sins and the depth of your rebellions. You oppress good people by taking bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts” Amos 5:10-12 (NLT)

Have you ever wondered why some people invest their ill-earned money in massive mansions, buy luxury cars but never live in the properties nor use those cars? It is because the words of the Lord must come to pass. They have gotten the money by oppressing the poor, using the blood of the innocent for money-making rituals and God will punish them for their sins.

For you to have peace with the Almighty God, you must do what is good, the word of God says, “Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will have mercy on the remnant of His people” Amos 5:14-15 (NLT)

There is still hope for you if you repent and throw away your sins, God is merciful and He will forgive you your sins.

Because, “The Lord’s home reaches up to the heaven’s while its foundation is onthe earth. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is His name!” Amos 9: 6. So He can do as He wishes because He owns the universe and He has said that you should do good to obtain mercy from Him.
