Expert verdict: Elliot Anderson 'is leaving' Nottingham Forest, these two clubs want to sign him

Elliot Anderson is all but certain to leave Nottingham Forest at the end of the season with a number of top Premier League clubs keen to lure him away.

Man City and Man United are believed to be the two front-runners for the 23-year-old’s signature and will go head to head in their pursuit this summer.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest will not be able to keep hold of Anderson even if they avoid relegation.

The Tricky Trees are currently three points away from the relegation zone and decided to sack Sean Dyche in the hope that his replacement will keep them up.

Constant turmoil behind the scenes at the City Ground has already caused issues for some players, and they now look set to lose one of their best in Anderson.

Elliot Anderson will leave Nottingham Forest in new twist

Football Insider revealed on 18 January that Man United will sign a midfielder in the summer, with Anderson and Adam Wharton top of their shortlist.

The Forest star is expected to go to the World Cup with England in the summer, and a strong showing in the U.S.A could spell an end to his time at the City Ground.

Forest are in real trouble if they get relegated,” Brown told Football Insider.

“There are a lot of top-quality players there who aren’t going to want to stick around in the Championship, and they’ll have clubs offering them a way out.

“Anderson is a bit different in that, I think he is leaving Forest even if they stay up.

“You’ve got Man United looking at him, Man City want him, there are others as well so I think it will be hard for Forest to keep hold of him anyway.

“Both of those clubs will be lining up moves for him, and he’ll be coming off the back of the World Cup which will only increase the interest.

“I don’t see any way Forest can stop him leaving it’s just about how much money they’ll get.”

Who is leading the race to sign Anderson?

Man United remain determined to land a new midfielder in the summer as they prepare for Casemiro to move on upon the expiry of his contract.

City’s interest is also well-documented, while the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle have also shown an interest in the England international.

However, former financial adviser Stefan Borson warned Football Insider that Forest could demand over £100million for Anderson, making the deal difficult to do.

Brown told Football Insider that Man United will go all out for Anderson as they hope to beat rivals to his signature at the end of the season.

However, City are widely considered to be the favourites given their considerable spending power as they have identified the midfielder as a key transfer target.
