1. President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, laid the 2023 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly. The bill was tagged, ‘Budget of Fiscal Sustainability and Transition.’ However, the key provisions in the proposed N20.51tn budget have attracted mixed reactions from major stakeholders.

2. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, on Friday, broke his silence on the controversies surrounding the return of over N100m housing allowance to the party’s coffers by some National Working Committee members. He said the NWC unanimously agreed on the allowance and that reports that the money was a bribe or an illegal payment as being alleged by some persons were false.

3. The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has impounded 23 trailers, including Dangote trucks allegedly loaded with foreign rice, hidden within bags of cement. The Area Controller, Bamidele Makinde, disclosed this at a press briefing held in idi-Iroko, Ipokia Local Government, Ogun State, on the achievements of the command in the third quarter of the year.

4. Folasade Ogunsola, a Professor of Microbiology, yesterday, emerged as the 13th Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG). The scholar makes history, as she becomes the first female VC of the institution established in 1962.

5. The Court of Appeal has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its strike immediately. But ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said yesterday that the union would review the ruling with its lawyer before taking next action.

6. Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo on Friday in Abuja struck out a suit instituted by the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on the secret trial of terrorism charges policy of the court.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has urged governors to meet with the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, over the floods currently wreaking havoc in States. Buhari spoke on Friday at the State House, while hosting the outgoing Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman and Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi.

8. Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, has accused the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy of shielding oil thieves. The Nigeria Delta activist made the incriminating remark against the military during a Television interview on Friday.

9. Dangote Cement Plc has disclosed that 27 workers of the company were shot at when armed thugs suspectedly acting on the order of Kogi State government invaded its Obajana cement plant. The company in a statement by its Group Managing Director, Michel Pucheros, said that the invasion was carried out by armed vigilantes, led by some officials of the state government.

10. Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has inaugurated a new security arrangement to safeguard the zone against banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminal activities. The move by Adams, who is also National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), was to strengthen the security architecture of the South West.
