Strange Disease kills Five Kebbi varsity Students

According to some students, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the university has not made an official statement, four students died last week under mysterious circumstances. Another student, who fell sick overnight, passed away today.

The sources also mentioned that officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited the university last week for an awareness campaign on meningitis. However, they did not confirm whether the two students who died before their visit were victims of the disease.

When contacted, the university’s registrar, Maimaru Alhaji Tilli, confirmed the deaths of four students but stated that the cause remains unknown.

“Yes, four students have died according to our records, but we do not know the cause. However, we recognize the urgent need to decongest student accommodations,” he said.

Tilli also revealed that he had formally written to the Ministry of Higher Education, particularly Commissioner Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga, seeking guidance on how to prevent further deaths.

“We requested permission to close the university, but we have yet to receive a response,” he added.

A student confirmed that the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has also written to the university administration, requesting the institution’s closure due to the mysterious illness affecting students.

As of now, no official diagnosis has been made, and concerns continue to grow within the university community.
