THE Emir of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has commended the appointment of an Arabic scholar, Dr AbdulKadir Salman, as one of the chief imams of the National Mosque, Abuja.
In a statement to appreciate the appointment, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari urged Dr Salman, who is the Malami Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate, to use his new position to promote unity, peace and development and religious harmony across Nigeria and beyond.
The traditional ruler described the appointment as impressive and honourable to the people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State in general.
The emir, who expressed confidence in the ability of the scholar to impact the nation positively through sermons and other religious engagements, said, “This appointment is a new dawn to us in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.”
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari thanked the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar; the Etsu Nupe and chairman of the National Mosque Management Committee, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; the Emir of Gummi and chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Justice Hassan Lawal Gummi, for the honour.

In the same vein, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) hailed Salman’s appointment.
In a statement signed by the national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the MMWG described the appointment as well-deserved and commendable, bearing in mind the intellectual capacity of the Islamic scholar.
The new chief imam, according to group, possesses a doctorate degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies and has contributed tremendously to the development of Islamic education in Nigeria.
The MMWG admonished Salman to continue in the spiritual and educational path he had been trading for about three decades and use his new position to advocate good governance and responsible followership.
